Netflix has launched its new supernatural series, The Burrows, starring veteran actor Clarke Peters as part of an aging ensemble. On Fresh Air, host Terry Gross introduced Peters as "one of the stars of the new Netflix series, The Burrows."
Peters admitted he was initially highly skeptical of the project. Speaking on the show, he revealed, "to tell you the truth, honestly, I, I didn't want to do The Burrows, uh, because someone had likened it to, um, Stranger Things," referring to the hit show Stranger Things. He joked that his biggest fear was "acting as I'm chasing monsters until I'm eighty years old," but he was ultimately won over by the strength of the script and the caliber of his co-stars.
Beyond the supernatural elements, Peters appreciates the rare opportunity the show provides for older actors. He explained that he loves portraying "a group of people who are the same age having an adventure," rather than being relegated to playing "somebody's dad, somebody's grandfather." Instead, he expressed a desire to "just carry on as life is, as it really is."
With the series now streaming, the focus shifts to whether audiences will embrace a senior-led sci-fi adventure. If Peters' enthusiasm for the character's quest is any indication, the show might just carve out its own unique space in the crowded prestige television landscape.
