A newly revealed June 2026 court filing has thrust Google's early days back into the spotlight, reminding the public of the eccentric, high-stakes culture fostered by its founders. On My First Million, host Shaan Puri laughed about an early Webby Awards video featuring Larry Page and Sergey Brin wearing "giant foil capes, and it looks like they're rollerblading."
But beneath the foil capes was a fierce ambition to redefine transportation. On Business Wars, host David Brown recalled how Page was "laser-focused on the company's driverless car project" at the top-secret research lab, Google X.
This pursuit of massive, daily-use utility is central to how former colleagues view his legacy. Speaking on The Diary Of A CEO, former executive Mo Gawdat described Page as "one of the most intelligent people I've ever interacted with." Gawdat highlighted the cofounder's famous "toothbrush test" philosophy, recalling how Page would ask, "Why would you need to compete on another photo-sharing app when if you find a major problem and solve it really well, like a toothbrush, so people use you quite a, you know, twice a day?"
