Gregory Moore is on trial for the murder of his client, Aliza Sherman, twelve years after her death. On Dateline NBC, host Andrea Canning detailed the shocking allegations, noting that "prosecutors allege that Aliza's own divorce attorney, Gregory Moore, lured her to her death that afternoon, and his alleged motive is almost impossible to believe."
According to the prosecution, this wasn't Moore's first time resorting to extreme measures to avoid a courtroom. On the same broadcast, Lynn Singer pointed to his history of "stopping, um, court proceedings in the past," including pleading guilty to calling in bomb threats when he wasn't prepared for cases. Singer explained that prosecutors believe "Aliza's case was the same thing. Instead of a, a bomb threat, though, it ended up in murder."
The defense is fighting back vigorously against these claims. Canning reported that Moore has pleaded not guilty to charges including aggravated murder and kidnapping, with his defense team arguing that prosecutors "charged the wrong man." They point instead to Sherman's estranged husband as having more motive, and argue that the twelve-year delay has made a fair trial impossible.
With the trial now underway, the court will have to decide if Moore's history of court disruption is enough to prove such an extreme motive, or if the defense can successfully shift the blame to her estranged husband after more than a decade of cold-case uncertainty.
