The new film Club Kid, directed by Jordan Firstman, made its splashy debut at the Cannes Film Festival, drawing a massive seven-minute standing ovation from the crowd.
Speaking on Call Her Daddy, star Cara Delevingne expressed her sheer joy for the creative team: "Oh, I was just so happy for Jordan and, like, little Reggie, who is the kid in the movie."
Delevingne noted that the film's strength lies in how it depicts "queer culture in such a realistic way for people who don't experience that or have never experienced that, those kind of clubs and drugs and all of it," before warning viewers that the film is also "a real tear, tearjerker."
With festival critics won over, the film now faces the challenge of translating French Riviera hype into domestic box-office success. Whether general audiences will connect as deeply with Firstman's raw, emotional portrait of queer nightlife remains to be seen.
