Screenwriter Joe Eszterhas recently sat down on The Joe Rogan Experience to swap vintage rock-and-roll anecdotes, including a late-night food run featuring Jimi Hendrix and his manager and bassist, Chas Chandler.
According to Eszterhas, the late-night escapade began after a concert when he and Hendrix started "smoking dope, of course, at nine thirty, and by fucking eleven thirty we both got the munchies." Seeking food, they headed downstairs to a waiting limousine where Mitch Mitchell and Chas Chandler piled in to join them.
Eszterhas didn't mince words about the appearance of the legendary rock figures at that hour, noting that Chandler and Mitchell were "equally looking like seedy characters, you know. But it's that time of morning. It's after a concert, all of that." The group then embarked on a search for a Hungarian restaurant on Buckeye Road.
While there are no new reissues or major announcements on the horizon for the Hendrix estate, these raw, unpolished glimpses into the daily lives of rock royalty continue to fascinate fans. Chas Chandler's legacy remains cemented not just as a music executive, but as a key player in the chaotic, late-night history of the 1960s British Invasion and psychedelic rock scenes.
