On the latest episode of Kill Tony, co-host Brian Redban found himself at the center of both career pitches and relentless onstage mockery. Fresh off a stand-up debut, comic Lawton Parnell made a direct play for a spot on Redban's weekly Austin showcase, telling the panel, "I can stay till Thursday if Redbane wants me on the secret show."
While newer comics treat Redban as a valuable gatekeeper, his long-time partner Tony Hinchcliffe is much quicker to paint him as a liability. During a set by Panama City Beach comic Gil, Hinchcliffe roasted Redban's notorious table-side drinking habits, complaining, "He mixes Red Bull and vodka, so he gets more energy and more stupid as the night goes on."
The dynamic remained volatile throughout the guest spots with Joe DeRosa and Tim Butterly. When comic Aya's heritage jokes led to some rowdy crowd reactions, Hinchcliffe had to step in to keep the panel focused, shouting, "Redban. No, she's not jumping, you fucking animals."
Despite the constant insults and the vodka-fueled brain fog, Redban's influence over the Austin comedy ecosystem isn't fading anytime soon. As long as the "Secret Show" remains a coveted stepping stone for rising stand-ups, expect comedians to keep tolerating the chaos at the main table.
