Nintendo's amended patent infringement lawsuit against Pocketpair has narrowed its focus to older versions of the game. On Kinda Funny Games Daily, host Tim Gettys reported that "it's not looking good for Nintendo's PalWorld lawsuit", noting that legal analysis suggests the Mario maker has "zero chance of prevailing" in the suit's current form.
Despite the weak legal outlook, the hosts acknowledge the game's obvious inspirations. Tim Gettys remarked that "it was no secret from the very beginning that Palworld was a Pokemon clone," but pointed out that proving actual copyright infringement in court is not so simple. Co-host Simon Cardy agreed on the game's derivative nature, admitting that while he hasn't played it, "from everything I've seen, I've been like, 'Yeah, that's Pokemon.'"
The upcoming court hearing will determine whether Nintendo can salvage its legal strategy or if Pocketpair is largely clear of legal threats ahead of its upcoming 1.0 release.
